What is a PLC?

A PLC or Programmable Logic Controller is a dedicated computer used for automating processes in the warehouse.  PLC’s are a memory resonant computer designed to monitor hardware and make quick decisions based on input and logic provided by a WCS or through embedded logic directly on the PLC itself.

PLC’s are designed to be resistant to temperature ranges as well as electromagnetic noise, impact and vibration.  PLCs are valuable to the supply chain because revisions can be done through software updates rather than new hardware upgrades.  This results in lower cost maintenance over time and a flexibility to change rapidly based on new business realities.
